Sampling and lab testing

Another service that we offer as a part of our asbestos survey is that of sampling and testing. The key thing to understand here is that it is not always possible to identify asbestos simply by looking at it – many materials that are completely safe to have in a property can look almost identical to asbestos. And, conversely, asbestos is often hidden as a component material, such as in cement.

As a part of our service, we can take a sample any potential asbestos containing material (ACM) and have it sent to a lab for testing. The results are usually available in under 36 hours.

When asbestos is disturbed or damaged inside a building, asbestos fibres are released into the air. This is the only time asbestos is dangerous to human health and buildings should never be occupied when this occurs. Sometimes it happens accidentally as a result of building work or decorating. In this case, it is important to have the air inside the building tested to establish whether fibres are in the air.

We can provide this service. If fibres are found to be present, it is important that the building is not used, and our team can re-test after a period of time has passed.
