Asbestos Testing

We offer asbestos testing services to clients across the UK, from Brighton to Southampton, the Midlands and London. Testing for Asbestos is vital. Asbestos can be present in any property built before 1999 when the material was banned from use in the UK.

It is very difficult to tell whether asbestos is present simply by looking at the material; the substance is ‘hidden’ within some materials such as Artex coating and cement, but additionally, many materials that look identical are actually harmless.  At Crucial Environmental, we carry out an initial asbestos survey at your property, and if we find any material that we suspect may contain asbestos, we send it off to a lab for testing. This testing checks whether asbestos is present, and establishes the current condition of the asbestos.

Who can test for asbestos?

Asbestos sampling and testing should only be carried out by experienced professionals who understand the risks of working with asbestos, and how to mitigate those risks. The testing that we conduct on asbestos samples is carried out at UKAS-accredited laboratories, as all asbestos testing should be.

What are the different types of asbestos test?

As well as offering testing on asbestos and potential asbestos-containing materials found in and around properties, we can also provide asbestos air testing. This is a different type of service that measures the levels of asbestos fibres in the air to establish whether the area is safe for use. If high levels of asbestos are found, the area is unsafe, and should not be used until a test confirms that the air is free from asbestos.

Our Asbestos Testing Services

Asbestos Laboratory Testing

We test for asbestos and asbestos-containing materials in a United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) certified lab. The samples are analysed using a variety of techniques including stereo microscopy, polarised light microscopy and dispersion staining. We can additionally offer emergency testing services when results are required as soon as possible.

Asbestos Sampling Services

If you are concerned about the level of asbestos fibres in a property, or you need to have the air tested as part of renovation or demolition work, we can help. We can offer air testing in commercial and industrial premises, as well as in private properties. We use approved suppliers who are accredited to ISO 17025 by UKAS.

If you find any material on your property that you believe could be asbestos, we offer a comprehensive sampling service. This involves carefully taking a sample of the material so that it can be sent away to a laboratory for testing.

Who can test for asbestos?

Asbestos testing should only be performed by experienced professionals who understand the risks associated with asbestos. Our testing is conducted at UKAS-accredited laboratories, ensuring all safety and quality standards are met.

What are the different types of asbestos tests available?

We offer two main types of tests: Asbestos Laboratory Testing for materials suspected of containing asbestos and Asbestos Air Testing to measure asbestos fibre levels in the air to ensure safety.

What happens during an asbestos survey?

During an initial asbestos survey, our team inspects your property to identify materials that might contain asbestos. Suspected materials are then sent to a lab for detailed analysis to confirm the presence and condition of asbestos.

Where do you offer your services?

We provide asbestos testing services across the UK, including areas from Brighton to Southampton, the Midlands, and London.

Why is it difficult to identify asbestos by just looking?

Asbestos is often hidden within materials like Artex coatings and cement. Some materials may look identical to asbestos-containing materials but are actually harmless, which makes visual identification unreliable.

Is asbestos testing necessary?

Yes, testing for asbestos is essential for any property built before 1999, as asbestos was commonly used in construction materials before its UK ban. Testing ensures that any presence of asbestos is safely managed.

What should I do if I suspect asbestos in my property?

If you suspect the presence of asbestos in your property, it’s crucial not to disturb the material. Contact us for a professional survey and testing to handle the material safely.

What does asbestos air testing involve?

Asbestos air testing involves measuring the level of asbestos fibres in the air to determine if the area is safe for use. High levels of asbestos require remediation to make the air safe again.

Can I get immediate results for urgent situations?

Yes, we offer emergency testing services where results are needed as soon as possible, especially in situations where immediate renovation or demolition is planned.
